    Geographic location

    With 8,028km² of land with its limits set by two independent communities, Castilla and León (North and West) and Castilla – La Mancha (South and East), resides the Community of Madrid, located at the center of the Iberica Peninsula. The peninsula is located Southwest of Europe.

    Situated 650 meters above sea level, although there are mountain ranges that are 700 meters above sea level, the Madrid Community is delimited by a series of physical barriers. North of the community is the mountain range that consists of the Sistema Central, which resides many mountains and important mountain peaks. To the south, there is a valley by the Tajo river and passes through Madrid.

    An uniprovincial territory, the city of Madrid is here, and is the Capital of Spain. The Manzanares river, affluent of Jarama flows through the city, and they flow into the Tajo river.

    Because of the location, the Community of Madrid is in a continental climate.

    The average temperature of the year is around 24ºC. The coldest months have an average temperature of 5ºC, and the hottest months average to about 24ºC.

    Precipitation is varied and unpredictable. Spring and Fall are the seasons that get the most rain, while Summer is the driest time of the year.

    Madrid is famous for being a very active city, where there is always something to do and people are always on the streets. This is true, but, like any other places, there are times where it is more convenient. To known the general schedules of the Spaniards will be helpful for your visit.

    Restaurants usually have a fairly flexible schedule. Lunch is usually eaten between 1 and 4 in the afternoon. Dinner starts at around 8:30 to midnight, sometimes even until 1 in the morning. However, there are more and more restaurants that do not close between lunch and dinner, and people can usually dine whenever they want.

    There are many things to do at night. For one, there are places to relax that are open until 3 or 3:30 in the morning. Also, there are night clubs that are open from midnight to 6:30 or 7 in the morning, which offers many hours of fun.

    Madrid has one of the best public transportation systems in the world. The buses, metro, and trains allows you to move around Madrid withought the need of a car. The first bus operates at 6 in the morning and the busses end at midnight. The metros run until 1:30 in the morning. For convenience, the trains operate from 5 in the morning until midnight. In addition, there are night busses that operate from midnight to 6 in the morning, when the normal daily busses will start to run again.
