The Madrid Naval Museum was opened to the public in 1843. Its nearly 170 years of history makes it one of the oldest museum of Europe. In 1932 it moved to its present location. The rich collection of the Naval Museum, with 11.000 object, permits to show the evolution of the Navy from the time of the Catholic Sovereingns to the present day. It also show the important endeavor of Spanish Navy servicemen in the most varied fields of knowledge, particulary when Spain was an unrivaled naval power in 16th and 17th centuries.
