Madrid is a great city, with many streets, corners and curious places to visit. In this post we will discover some of the most fascinating ones, which are unknown even by the locals. If you know something about Madrid, you will already know Gran Vía, the Temple of Debod, Cibeles, the Retreat or Sol. But today we want to go further, here are some places that are worth visiting on your next trip to Madrid.

El Capricho Park

If you know the Retiro Park, we advise you to visit El Capricho. It is a historical park built between 1787 and 1838 for the Duchess of Osuna, which houses a great amount of botanical, sculptural and artistic wealth. Walking there is a constant discovery: from 18th century palaces to romantic gardens, waterfalls, lakes and temples. It will definitely take you to another moment in history. In addition, it hides the famous bunker of the Jaca Position from the time of the Spanish Civil War, which you can access with a guided tour. Of course, it is not open every day and it is far from the city center, at the El Capricho metro station. Therefore, it is recommended to check their schedule on the Madrid City Council website.

Hermitage of San Antonio de la Florida

Another little known place. It is a hermitage located in Moncloa-Aravaca, which contains the magnificent works of Francisco de Goya from the late 18th century. In 1905, it was declared a National Historic Landmark and since 1919 it is the grave of a famous artist. Therefore, if you are an art lover and want to admire Goya's murals, this is an essential stop for you in Madrid.

Garden of the Prince of Anglona

If what you are looking for is a place to walk outdoors, you have to visit this green corner of Madrid, open to all passersby, but it is difficult to find, because although it is very central, it is not usually visible because it is covered by high walls. The Principe Angluana Garden was created around 1750. It has more than 800 square meters and preserves the neoclassical layout. It is located in the lower part of the Plaza de la Paja near La Latina. There is no doubt that this is an oasis to rest and read a good book.

La Tabacalera

If museums and art are your thing, we invite you to visit the Tabacalera Espacio Promoción del Arte. A cultural and art center located in the Old Tobacco Factory in Madrid. Currently, its spaces house temporary exhibitions and activities related to photography, contemporary art and the visual arts. The space is located on Calle Embajadores 51.
